JOSEPH ANDRESS, son of Jacob, was born ca. 1803 in Warren County, New Jersey. Joseph was a farmer; his farm was located just a few miles east of Blairstown in Hardwick Township, Warren County. He died 04 June 1874 at his home, and was buried in Marksboro Presbyterian Churchyard.
Joseph married Margaret Hunt ca. 1824. She was the daughter of Joseph Hunt and Mary Simpson of Green Township, Sussex County, NJ. Margaret was born ca. 1795 and she died of remittent fever on 12 April 1854. She was buried in Marksboro Presbyterian Churchyard.
Joseph and Margaret Andress had the following children:
I. SARAH H. ANDRESS was born in 1824 and died in 1893.
II. MARSHALL H. ANDRESS was born ca. 1830 and he died 19 Oct. 1894.
III. HARRIET D. ANDRESS was born Oct. 1831 and died in 1900.
IV. HAMPTON W. ANDRESS was born 16 June 1832 and died 04 Jan. 1908.

1881, History of Sussex and Warren Counties, New Jersey, James P. Snell, page 499: Joseph Andress served on the jury of one of the most infamous trials of the county in 1843 and 1844. John Castner, his wife, Maria Matilda, their daughter, and John B. Parke, were murdered, and a boy, Jesse Force, was left dying at the scene of the crime. Joseph Carter and Peter W. Parke were hung for the murders in 1845.
