AFR 3-5 C: Roy Lewis Andress

ROY LEWIS ANDRESS, son of Hampton W., was born 12 Oct. 1890 in Stroudsburg. He moved to Palmerton, Carbon County, PA before 1928, and there died 02 Dec. 1975. He is buried Stroudsburg Cemetery.

Roy married Sadie M. Bittenbender, daughter of Milton Bittenbender and Edna Shoemaker, 05 Sept. 1910, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stroudsburg. Sadie was born 07 Sept. 1892 in Sand Hill, PA. She died 27 April 1990 in Palmerton, PA, and is buried Stroudsburg Cemetery.

Roy and Sadie Andress had the following children:

I. RUSSELL MILTON ANDRESS was born 25 Nov. 1911 in Stroudsburg. He was a Baptist minister. He died 30 Jan. 1983 at his home in Lexington, Kentucky, and is buried in Stroudsburg Cemetery.

II. FLOYD LEROY ANDRESS SR. was born 28 Jan. 1913 and died 08 Nov. 2002. He married Jennie K. Lukasevich. She was born 22 Feb. 1918 and died 19 Aug. 1981. She was the daughter of Peter Lukasevich and Tatiana Skopetz, of Palmerton. Floyd and Jennie had two children: (1) Jane K., and (2) Floyd L.

III. ELWOOD KENNETH ANDRESS was born 01 Sept. 1914 and he died 01 Jan. 1999 in Palmerton, PA.

Andress, Pensacola, FL: “Dear Joe: I finally located you, just two days before we celebrated Mother & Dads 60th wedding anniversary. We had a very pleasant time. Dick sent me your address. Thought you might enjoy this picture which was taken that day. Since we live so near let me hear from you. We are the oldest of the two families. Hope we can get together. A former member of the Phoenix Fire Engine and Hose Co., he was a member of the Phoenix Firemens Relief Assn., Stroudsburg. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Russell M. Andress of Charlotte, N.C., Floyd L. of Palmerton, and Elwood K. of Palmerton R.D. 2; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and a brother Clarence L. Andress of East Stroudsburg. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday in William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg with Rev. John K. Stendahl, officiating. He was a truck driver for the W.C. Wol fretz Co., Allentown, for six years before retiring in 1976. Born in Stroudsburg, he was a son of the late Roy L. and Sadie M. (Bittenbender) Andress. He was of the Protestant faith. Andress was an Army veteran of World War II, having attained the rank of sergeant. He was a former member of the Lehighton American Legion Post and a member of the CB Club of Palmerton, with call letters KKU4450 and being known as ‘Shoe Polish.’ Surviving are a brother, Floyd L. Sr., of Kunkletown; and nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.”
